Working families are being squeezed from every direction: groceries, rent, gas, healthcare. Costs keep climbing while Congress hands tax breaks to billionaires. Enough.
The Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act is the relief working families actually need. It exempts the first $46,000 of income for individuals—and $92,000 for married couples—from federal income taxes entirely. That’s thousands of dollars back in your pocket every year.
This bill is paid for by asking millionaires to finally pay their fair share. No gimmicks. No fine print. Just a tax code that works for workers.
The AFT is proud to be leading on this legislation. Here’s what it includes:
- Zero federal income taxes for individuals earning under $46,000—the median cost of living for a single adult.
- Zero federal income taxes for married couples earning under $92,000.
- Significant tax cuts for individuals earning up to $80,500 and families earning up to $161,000.
- A tiered surtax on income above $1 million—paid equally on wages and investment income.
- An estimated tax cut for nearly 130 million people, including 25 million children.
President Donald Trump promised to lower costs. It hasn’t happened. The big, ugly bill (the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act) doubled down on tax giveaways for the wealthy while stripping healthcare and food assistance from working families. This bill does the opposite: It puts cash back in the hands of the people who keep this country running.
This country has always promised that if you work hard and play by the rules, you’ll be OK. It’s time for a tax code that makes that promise real.
Congress must pass the Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act.
